How Select Clamps refer to Injection Molding Machine Tons?
These recommendations ensure the mold is stabilized safely and in good condition. For better performance, the clamping force and the mold’s projected area should be considered. Below status are for reference:
Shot 60-80g(∼30-50 tons): M12
Shot 100-300g(∼80-150 tons): M16
Shot 400-2500g(∼200-500 tons): M20
Shot 3000-7000g(∼600-1000 tons): M24
Shot 7000-30000g(∼1200-2000 tons): M30
Shot above 30000g(over 2000 tons): M36
The recommended clamp sizes based on the injection molding machine’s shot size are only suggestions. The actual selection should be based on the size of the equipment’s threaded holes or T-slots.
Injection Mold Clamps Applications
Injection mold clamps are extensively used across various industries. These molds have essential applications in several key sectors, serving critical functions and enhancing production efficiency.

Why Choose Our Injection Mold Clamps
Considerations When Choosing Right Size Mold Clamps
First, measure the thickness of the mold flange and choose a clamp with a clamping range (K) that covers it. Ensure the clamping range can accommodate the flange thickness to achieve a stable hold.
Refer to the clamp’s compatible bolt size to ensure that the bolt can be inserted into the clamp hole. This prevents issues such as loose fitting caused by undersized bolts or installation difficulties caused by bolts that are too big. The page offers both metric and American.
Based on the mold flange height, add the “J” dimension(the “J” dimension varies for different flange heights; refer to the form for the size) and the length of the platen thread hole to calculate the required bolt length.
Ensure the clamp’s total length and design align with the injection molding machine’s available installation space. This will prevent issues with oversized clamps causing interference or undersized clamps failing to hold effectively.

Frequently Asked Questions
Clamping force (also known as mold closing force) is an essential parameter of injection molding machines, referring to the clamping force applied by the machine to the mold. Like injection volume, clamping force reflects, to some extent, the machine’s capacity to process products and is often used as a primary parameter to indicate the size of the machine’s specifications. The clamping force P is calculated based on the vertical projection area of the injection molded product on the mold plate (head plate or second plate):
Clamping force = Clamping force constant × Product projection area
i.e., P = kp · SWhere:
- P — Clamping force (t)
- S — Vertical projection area of the product on the mold plate (cm²)
- Kp — Clamping force constant (t/cm²)
Kp values are listed in the following table (Table 2-4):

Example: Suppose a product has a vertical projection area of 410 cm² on the head plate or second plate, and the product material is PE. Calculate the required clamping force. Using the above formula:
P = Kp · S = 0.32 × 410 = 131.2 (tons)For production stability and injection machine load safety considerations, the clamping force of the injection molding machine is generally 1.17 times the actual clamping force of the product. Therefore, 131.2 × 1.17 = 153.5 (tons), meaning a 160-ton injection molding machine should be selected.
Injection volume is calculated based on the product’s density and the product’s volume to determine the material’s weight needed for one mold cycle. The barrel capacity of the injection molding machine is the injection volume. For example, if the weight of one mold cycle, including the sprue, is 70g, then the minimum injection molding machine needed would have a 100g barrel capacity. The optimal usage is when the actual product volume is 70% of the barrel capacity. Too large a capacity may result in under-filling, while too small a capacity may lead to material decomposition due to prolonged high temperature exposure.
Several factors are essential to obtain excellent output from the plastic processing injection molding machines when setting the engine, most notably the clamping pressure of the mold clamp.
Clamping Pressure
Clamping pressure is a force that helps position the mold near the injection molding machine. It is also a measurement of the force that holds the mold clamps.
For this reason, the clamping pressure needs to be high to improve operation and avoid the force of the injection causing the mold clamps to open early.
If the pressure is not high, mold clamps will open early and causes a sparkle on the nearby parts.
Importance of Clamping Pressure
Clamping pressure is the variable that is quite helpful in measuring the capacity of the injection molding machine to get good results.
Clamping pressure has a great effect on the output product, as well as on its costs and cycles.
Clamping pressure is essential because if the mold is not tight enough, the plastic will come out of the mold, resulting in parting lines.
Yushine’s, being a plastic auxiliary manufacturer, is raising the bar with its high-quality mold clamps, which come in various models.
Yushine is good at manufacturing mold clamps, which come in two forms: adjustable mold clamps and C-type mold clamps. The specifications of C-type mold clamps are as follows:
The diameter of M12 is 12.5mm, the height is 50mm, and H1 is between 15 and 35. To measure the dimensions, use M12x115.
The diameter of the M16 model is 16.5. The height is 70mm, H1 is in the range of 15-40mm, and to measure dimensions, use M16x 110/130/150
The dimension measure of the M20 model is M20x180/220. Its diameter is about 20.5 mm, and its height is about 100mm.
The dimension measure of the M24 model is M24x220/240, the diameter is 25mm, and the height is 110/125mm.
The dimension measure of the M30 model is M30x250. Its diameter is 30mm, and its height is 125mm.
Case Models

Mold clamps are used in the metal processing industry. They are used in CNC machining centers or milling machines to secure large workpieces, prevent movement during processing, and ensure machining accuracy.

The mold clamps used on the injection mold must be firmly secured to withstand the high-pressure injection of molten plastic and ensure consistency in product quality with each cycle.
